CLPB Welcomes Mark Lester 2025
CLPB members gathered at Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday, April 5th, for Mark Lester’s talk and demonstration. Mark recently relocated from the Jacksonville area and holds a BFA from the University of North Florida. He is the education director at the Armory in West Palm Beach, where he also teaches.
Mark discussed incorporating glass, metal, and wood into his ceramic pieces, sharing images and video. During the demo portion of the afternoon, Mark walked attendees through the process of creating a double-walled bottle from start to finish. Mark demonstrated all the necessary steps on the potter’s wheel to create the structure and completed the demo by carving the outside wall to reveal the vessel inside. Many thanks to Mark for sharing his process, vision, and talent- an inspiration to us all! Thank you to Heather Couch for organizing this event, enjoyed by all!!

Raku Animal Sculpture Workshop Recap
With nearly 20 participants, our first part of the Raku series was a fantastic experience! Heather gave an insightful presentation on animal sculptures, guiding us through the creative process.
Raku Clay: Each participant received Raku clay to work on their piece. Now it’s time to finish and bisque fire your sculpture before the second part of the event – Raku Firing at Mingo’s Studio in Fort Lauderdale on March 16.
January Glaze Workshop
Heather Couch provided a lecture and hands-on demonstration in the studio's glazing room, showing how to measure and mix the various materials used to create unique glazes. The practical aspect of the workshop was especially valuable and well-received by attendees.
The event lasted over two hours, leaving everyone inspired and equipped with new skills. Additionally, some members expressed interest in taking on more active roles within the League, highlighting the workshop's success in fostering community and collaboration.
Thank you to everyone who attended and made this a memorable start to the year!
Our recent event featuring a Skinny Neck Vase wheel demonstration by Gayle Newman at Potters Cove Studio was a huge success! Nearly 20 people attended, and Gayle was a kind and inspiring host. Her detailed teaching and thoughtful explanations about working on the wheel made it a memorable experience for everyone. Thank you to all who came and made this event so special!
On April 12, as part of our April board meeting, Barbara Powell instructed us on how to enter an exhibition. This included the key factors to consider. Barbara demonstrated how to take professional photos and provided key information on how to submit to a Call to Artists (i.e., Artist Bio, Artist Statement, editing photos, etc.).
On Thursday, March 21we had a demonstration by Odile Yeramian. Yeramian is a French, self-taught artist. After a successful career in international marketing, she turned her focus to ceramics, taking interest in the versatility of the material. She explores unconventional surface treatment for functional and sculptural pieces. She is also experienced in welding, and often incorporates steel into her mixed-media work.
