Clay Talk, Meeting and Hand-Building Demo
Greetings and salutations to all you good clay folk! Summer is over and we begin a new year of mud and mayhem here at the Ceramic League. We have much in store for you this year and we look forward to catching up with each and every one of you at our next meeting, September 17, 2014 at 1PM at the Craft Gallery.

We will be sending out reminders this month that dues are due the first of October and will be considered delinquent after the 31st of October. Please remain a member in good standing so you may enjoy all or some of the workshops we are planning for this year.

Go to our updated web site to update your info and pay dues online if you would like to make it easier on yourself and on our membership chair and our treasurer.

We look forward to a busy and fruitful year.
Until September 17th – so long!

Joan Carew

Please remember to park on the street!! Thank You!!

Chris Pickett - Hand Building Demo

Our demo artist at this month's meeting will be Chris Pickett, Resident Artist at the Armory in West Palm Beach.

Chris earned his BFA from the University of Tennessee in 2001. In the years that followed, Chris maintained a studio practice at his home in Chattanooga, while frequently working as a studio assistant at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. In 2008, Chris began his graduate studies at the University of Florida and was awarded his MFA in 2011. He grew up in the 1970’s and 80’s in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Childhood experiences filled with Lincoln Logs, improvised tree house construction and action figure forts constructed of twigs and pine needles, taught Chris to love working with his hands at an early age. These early experiences would become a significant influence on his work years later.

This will be a great hand-building demo

We start the year off with a hands on One day workshop on October 8th from 10:00am to 3:00pm. It will feature the art of making a hand and will be presented by Joan Carew. Please sign up at the next meeting or call Betty to reserve a space. The cost will be $35.00. Bring a sack lunch, and prepare to have a great time.

In February we will have Mitch Lyons as our guest for a two day workshop on creating monoprints on clay. This is limited to 10 people at a cost of $200 per person. This workshop will fill up quickly so plan on signing up and paying soon.

In March Meagan Chaney will be here for a two day workshop on creating pods and demonstrating her gorgeous techniques for surfaces. This will be limited to 12 people at a cost of $125 per person.

Also in March we are contemplating having Kirsten Stingle back for an advanced workshop on the figure. This will be up for a vote at the next meeting since she is expensive. It would be limited to only 10 advanced ceramic artists at a cost of $450 per person. She is well worth the price of admission and you come away with a beautifully crafted piece.

We are having the Holiday Show again this year. Details to follow as the date gets closer but the dates to remember are December 11th, (the Opening) 12th and 13th. Cost to be in it is $15 per member.

Please call Betty at 585-7744 for details and to sign up for all workshops and the Holiday Show.

Next month, Joan Carew will be assembling our newsletter.
